There wasn’t a lot of new Christmas movies to choose from this year, especially ones with superb acting performances. But, we did discover a few that are must-watches this holiday season that feature star-studded casts and writing that will have you giggling and feeling the Christmas spirit.

Candy Cane Lane

Chris Carver (Eddie Murphy) makes a deal with a devilish elf that brings the 12 days of Christmas to life. Tracee Ellis Ross stars alongside Murphy as his wife Carol who along with their children Joy (Genneya Walton), Nick (Thaddeus J. Mixson), and Holly (Madison Thomas) help to undo the curse.

Genie

Melissa McCarthy and Paapa Essiedu star in Amazon Prime’s Genie. Essiedu‘s character Bernard is going through a tough time in his life after he loses his job and his wife leaves him. He then comes upon an antique box that awakens a genie named Flora (McCarthy). As Flora helps Bernard get his life together, he introduces her to the modern world. Written by Love Actually writer/director Richard Curtis, who also wrote the 1991 original TV movie Bernard and the Genie.

Family Switch

The Walker family struggle to understand one another until a magical planetary alignment causes them to switch bodies and literally walk in each others shoes. Starring Jennifer Garner and Ed Helms, this Christmas comedy is a fun watch for the whole family.

Best. Christmas. Ever!

Every year during the holidays Jackie (Brandy Norwood) sends an elaborate newsletter to her college friend Charlotte (Heather Graham) updating her on what’s happening in her life. When they accidentally are forced to spend Christmas together, Charlotte tries to prove that Jackie’s life isn’t as perfect as it seems on paper.

EXmas

Graham (Robbie Amell) surprises his family when he returns home for Christmas and he’s surprised when he discovers his ex-fiancé Ali (Leighton Meester) has been invited to spend the holiday there in his place. Queue the sabotage and inevitable rekindling romance.

Dashing Through the Snow

Due to a traumatic Christmas in his childhood the joyful holiday is Eddie’s (Ludacris) least favorite time of the year. But, when he and his daughter Charlotte (Madison Skye) meet Santa Claus (Lil Rel Howery) they embark in an adventure of a lifetime and Eddie’s attitude slowly but surely changes.

What Happens Later

The rom-com queen Meg Ryan directs and stars in What Happens Later. What are the odds you’ll get stuck in the airport with your ex? Slim to none. So, when it happens to ex-lovers Bill (David Duchovny) and Willa (Ryan) they ponder if this coincidence is just that or something more.
