Lily Collins, Halsey to Join Mia Goth in ‘X’ Sequel ‘MaXXXine’

Mia Goth is reprising her role as Maxine in the third and final film of Ti West’s X series. Lily Collins, Halsey, Elizabeth Debicki, Kevin Bacon, Giancarlo Esposito, Bobby Cannavale, Moses Sumney, and Michelle Monaghan are confirmed as cast.

MaXXXine takes place in 1985 a decade after the events of X. The story follows Maxine as she makes her way to Los Angeles to become a famous actress after surviving the farmhouse massacre. The official logline reads: “The film follows Maxine (Goth), after the events of X, as the sole survivor who continues her journey towards fame setting out to make it as an actress in 1980’s Los Angeles.”

X premiered in March 2022 and received rave reviews becoming critically acclaimed. The first installment of the horror franchise starred Jenna Ortega, Brittany Snow, and Kid Cudi alongside Goth as both Maxine and Pearl. X follows a group of actors and filmmakers as they set to film an adult movie in rural Texas when a murderous elderly woman named Pearl catches them in the act. The prequel, Pearl, made its world debut at the Venice International Film Festival in September 2022 and also became critically acclaimed. Set in 1918, Pearl is the origin story of X’s killer Pearl.

“It’s the best script of the three by far. It’s going be the best movie of the three,” Goth said about MaXXXine in an interview with Variety.

A24 is behind the film with Goth, director and writer Ti West, Jacob Jaffke, Harrison Kreiss, and Kevin Turen producing. Filming will begin late April in Los Angeles. A release date has yet to be set.
