Monday night in Los Angeles, the stars of television walked the red carpet (well, it’s actually gold) at the Microsoft Theater dressed to impress to celebrate TV’s most outstanding.
The women strutted in blush pink, sequins, glitter, and glamorous old Hollywood-esque gowns. Two-time Emmy winner Zendaya’s custom black Valentino dress was inspired by a vintage Valentino piece which makes sense because it’s reminiscent of Audrey Hepburn circa 1954. Elle Fanning who was nominated that night for Lead Actress in The Great also went with a glamorous vintage black gown but with a hint of pink. In a caption on Instagram Fanning said, “I have always been inspired by the Hollywood glamour of the 50s, particularly Grace Kelly”.
Those draped in glittery fabric, embroidery, and sequins were Hoygeon Jung, Angela Bassett, Reese Witherspoon, Ella Purnell, Lily James, and Natalie Zea to name a few. First time Emmy nominee and winner Sheryl Lee Ralph glittered and shined with diamond studs decorated throughout her hair and around her eyes. Nominee Sandra Oh’s purple sequined suit by Rodarte stood out in the crowd. One of the winners of the night, Amanda Seyfried wore a dress that inhibited all three of the trends sequins, pink, and classic Hollywood glamour.
The men opted for the usual black or navy tailored suit with a few exceptions. Lead Actor nominee for his role in Under the Banner of Heaven, Andrew Garfield was among the few to go with white. Nominee Nicholas Hoult’s suit was black but the style was not the usual, he went with a 70’s wide leg pant and rhinestone detail on his white button down.
