“Cause i’m icy wifey, haters wanna fight me, never been the one get R.I.P up on a white tee”…I remember when Saweetie made her debut with “ICY GRL”, she was trending then and 4 years later she’s still trending. Not only that but she’s also an award nominated, covergirl. Since her debut in 2017 she’s had many accomplishments, her proudest being listed in Forbes 30 Under 30. When she found out she made the list, Saweetie told Cosmopolitan, “I screamed”. There’s a lot you may not know about Saweetie, from the outside looking in you may just look at her as just another pretty face but she’s more than that. In her Cosmo cover story, Saweetie acknowledges having pretty privilege and being underestimated because of it. It’s the reason for the title of her first studio album that’s coming soon, Pretty Bitch Music. She told Cosmo, “It’s my way of taking back all those years where I feel I had to dim my light”.

If you’ve been paying attention to Saweetie on social media you’ve probably seen her say “pretty bitch music” and more recently “pretty bitch summer”. Just a couple days ago she promoted a summer playlist she curated that will feature up and coming artists. She’ll be releasing what she’s calling “season one” of the Pretty Summer Playlist this Friday. Also coming on Friday, we’ll get to hear a song from Gwen Stefani featuring Saweetie! Um, hell yes! I can’t wait to hear this collab.
Before we knew her as Saweetie, Diamonté Harper attended the University of Southern California and graduated with a degree in business communications and a 3.6 GPA. According to Cosmo, Ms. Harper considers herself to be a multi-hyphenate entrepreneur, as she should because she has a long list of achievements. You can add philanthropist to the long list. Saweetie launched a non-profit along with her grandmother to support single mothers, people with autism, education efforts, and low-income communities called The Icy Baby Foundation. Saweetie is a very busy woman and when asked in her Cosmo interview what she does when she’s not working or needs to decompress her response was, “I am not a human being”. Well, that’s no surprise, Saweetie has created her own lane that separates her from the rest and she’s just getting started. As she says in her cover story, “life is like a Lamborghini -it goes fast”, if that’s not the truth I don’t know what is!

As you can see there’s a lot you don’t know about this rising star. She has an inspiring journey and I’m glad she shared it with us. Read the full Cosmopolitan April cover story here.
