Grammys 2021: Beyoncé Makes History, Red Carpet Faves, Best Performances, and MORE

The 2021 Grammys aired March 14th on CBS and was hosted by Trevor Noah. The Premiere Ceremony was hosted by three time Grammy nominated artist Jhené Aiko and streamed live on Grammy.com. To kick-off the ceremony there was a tribute performance celebrating the 50th anniversary of Marvin Gaye’s “Mercy, Mercy Me (The Ecology)”, this was an all nominee ensemble featuring Afro-Peruvian Jazz Orchestra, Camilo, PJ Morton, Regina Carter, Lupita Infante, John Beasley, and more. There were also performances by 2021 nominees such as Burna Boy, Poppy, Rufus Wainwright, Terri Lynne Carrington + Social Science, and more.

History was made when Beyoncé tied the all time record of most Grammy wins by any female artist and singer male or female. The announcement came after Megan Thee Stallion & Beyoncé won the Best Rap Song Award for Savage Remix. It was a heart warming moment to see Megan accept her Grammy Award alongside Beyoncé whom she’s aspired to be like since a child, saying in her acceptance speech, “if you know me you have to know ever since I was little I was like you know what one day i’m gonna grow up and be like the rap Beyoncé”.

Beyoncé later won the award for Best R&B Performance for “Black Parade” making it her 28th Grammy and the most Grammy wins by any female artist and singer male or female. This was a great night for the Carter-Knowles family as Beyonce and Jay-Z’s daughter, 9 year old Blue Ivy Carter won her first Grammy Award with her mom. They won the Best Music Video Award for “Brown Skin Girl” earlier that night at the pre-show. In Beyoncé’s acceptance speech she congratulated her daughter. Watch the acceptance speech below.

In an Instagram video Beyoncé shared photos from Grammy night celebrating her wins. At the end of the video were two photos of Blue Ivy holding her Grammy Award. As Jay-Z gave his Grammy acceptance speech back in 2014 he said, “I want to tell Blue, ‘Daddy got a gold sippy cup for you”. Now, Blue Ivy has her very own gold sippy cup! Like father like daughter.

There were lots of performances but there are some specific performances that stood out. One in particular has the internet talking, mostly negatively about the performances lack of censorship. I’m sure you know the performance i’m talking about, Cardi B and Megan Thee Stallion’s “WAP”. But, I have to disagree with the naysayers. I thought they killed it! I remember seeing Cardi B perform 4 years ago and she told the audience she was out of breath, now she’s performing on the Grammys in an 18 pound chrome outfit. AMAZING!

Cardi tweeted this in response to a comment about the song and Grammy show:

Watch the “WAP” performance that has the internet buzzing:

DaBaby’s performance of “ROCKSTAR” was also AMAZING! The performance featured Roddy Rich, Anthony Hamilton with his vocals, a choir of elderly white people, and the gorgeous violinist, Mapy.

Watch the powerful performance below:

This was the first time Bruno Mars and Anderson .Paak’s nw band ‘Silk Sonic’ performed anywhere ever. They released their first single “Leave the Door Open” March 5th along with a music video. Mars and .Paak are bringing 70s soul back and I am here for it!

Anytime Doja Cat performs she kills it so I wasn’t surprised at her Grammy performance of “Say So”. Doja has performed “Say So” soooo many times but every time is totally different than the last. The hit song was actually nominated 3 times at this years Grammys and that isn’t surprising either because it spent 6 weeks at number 1!

Watch Doja Cat’s performance below:

Dua Lipa won a Grammy for Best Pop Vocal Album and performed “”Levitating” ft. DaBaby and “Don’t Start Now”. Obsessed with the Versace look she wore completely covered in Swarovski crystals!

I was really hoping Beyoncé was going to perform “Savage Remix” with Megan Thee Stallion but spoiler alert she didn’t, unfortunately. Nonetheless it was a great performance, Miss Tina Snow didn’t need any help. Everything was on point from the outfit, to the set design, to the dancing, all around she DID THAT! And not only did she do that but she did MORE! It may have been her first time at the Grammys but she left with not 1, not 2, but 3 Grammy Awards.

Watch Megan Thee Stallion shine bright with her performance of “Body” and “Savage Remix”:

Billie Eilish won the Record Of The Year Award for “everything i wanted” and had an Adele moment. In her acceptance speech she basically rejected the award stating how she felt Megan Thee Stallion deserved it. Megan Thee Stallion was nominated in the same category for “Savage Remix”. I love “everything i wanted” which is why it was one of my favorite performances but I do agree with Eilish.

Watch Billie Eilish perform “everything i wanted” with her brother Finneas below:

Another performance I loved was Taylor Swifts performance of “cardigan”, “august”, and “williow”. It was the scenery for me! All around it was a beautiful performance but that’s expected of the now 11 time Grammy winner. Swift won this year for Album Of The Year.
