If you saw this years inauguration or at least been keeping up with the social media posts (like me) then you might have noticed a certain fashion trend between the ladies. Former First Lady Michelle Obama, former Presidential candidate Hillary Clinton, Vice President Kamala Harris,Ffirst Lady Jill Biden, the other Biden ladies; Naomi, Finnegan, Maisie, Ashley, and cousin Natalie, as well as entertainer Jennifer Lopez wore monochromatic looks.

Our new First Lady Jill Biden dressed in an all turquoise blue tweed coat with matching dress, face mask, and gloves by Markarian. Mrs. Biden was styled by Markarian founder and creative director, Alexandra O’Neil who told Harper’s Bazaar, “I am so humbled to be even a small part of American history.” The dress is tapered with chiffon bodice and scalloped skirt. It also has special touches like a hand-embellished neckline with swarovski pearls and crystals in a floral pattern on the dress and the same crystals on the coat. The color was chosen to “signify trust, confidence, and stability.” I love this look from the First Lady and can’t wait to see if she continues her jewel tone monochromatic theme.

Pictured left in an all white look is granddaughter Naomi in Adam Lippes; right is her sister Finnegan in all camel color outfit by Brandon Maxwell; below Naomi is their cousin Natalie in bubble gum pink coat with matching accessories by Lafayette 148 New York. In the photo above this, you can see Biden’s other granddaughter Maisie in all black with Nike sneakers on as well as his daughter Ashley in all black.

Not only is Kamala Harris our first woman VP but she’s the first VP of African and Indian decent. At the inauguration she wore a bold purple coat and dress to match by up and coming designer Christopher John Rodgers. Her shoes are by another up and coming Black designer, Sergio Hudson. The new VP’s necklace was a pearl necklace designed by Wilfredo Rosado. Harris is an AKA (Alpha Kappa Alpha) and always chooses a pearl necklace in honor of her sorority. I can’t wait to see what our VP will be wearing these next four years!

Pictured to the right is Meena Harris, Kamala Harris’s niece. Meena wore a shiny green dress by Ulla Johnson featuring a cozy green coat staying on the monochromatic trend.

Our forever President and First Lady Barack and Michelle Obama did not disappoint as usual. Michelle wore a burgundy coat and jumpsuit with a gold belt by Sergio Hudson, the same designer mentioned above for designing Kamala Harris’s shoes. Hudson also designs for celebrities like Beyonce and Rihanna. This wasn’t his first time working with Obama, he is responsible for what she wore on the book tour for her best seller Becoming.

Hillary Clinton came dressed in the same purple as VP Kamala Harris as well as the same accessory color choice, a black mask, gloves, and shoes. Although the color is great I wish Clinton would have came in a different color like a blue color or even pink would have been nice. But, according to an article by Harper’s Bazaar, purple represents the melding of the two parties therefore sending a message of unity. Unity is definitely what we need in this country and in the world, hopefully with the new leadership we can get closer to equality in the U.S.

Moving on to the last monochromatic look, Jennifer Lopez wore all white sequined look by Chanel and styled by Rob Zangardi. Although not visible, her shoes were by Jimmy Choo. I love love love this look! I think she looked stunning from head to toe!
